Still trying to figure out what you really want out of life and for your marriage? Still trying to figure out what God’s purpose is for your life and marriage? Try starting with passion …
T.D. Jakes says “If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right to your purpose.”
When our middle daughter Sommer turned six years old, she asked, “Mommy, which do you want me to do? Should I do dance or do cheerleading?” Ironically, at the time, Julie faced a quandary herself. Much like Sommer, she faced a decision of what she should do. For weeks she sought God, poring over her list of duties and opportunities. Everything on the list seemed important. She kept asking God the same question that Sommer asked her: Which do you want me to do? Her answer came in response to Sommer. “Baby doll, which would you enjoy the most?”
As parents, we want our kids to enjoy what they do. Likewise, God desires us to enjoy life to the fullest. Sometimes we over-complicate it! Perhaps while we are agonizing over God’s will, He’s responding, Which would you enjoy the most? Our passions lead us to our purpose.
Take time to ask each other the following questions:
- What similar passions do you share?
- What do we both enjoy?
- In what ways do we feel most useful?
- We serve most naturally, with the least amount of effort, when we …
- What would we do even if we never got paid to do it?
1 Corinthians 10:31 states, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory.”
Eating and drinking might not sound like very extraordinary, but maybe that’s the point. However you choose to spend your days on this earth, do it with joy, do it with passion and do it for God’s glory.
